About Build It in 3D

Why it exists

Most 3D tutorials teach you to draw a box. A carpenter needs to draw a wardrobe: two sides, a top and bottom, a back, a plinth, shelves that fit between the sides and doors with the right gaps. Each board its own part, so the drawing turns into a cut list.

So every lesson here builds something real, board by board, at real sizes. Get one wrong and the check tells you which board, by how many millimetres, and why.

Who made it

Rafal Janczy, a carpenter in London. He has drawn every job in 3D before cutting it for years, and built CabinetOS, an app that turns furniture drawings into cut lists. The lessons use the same rules his workshop does.

The tools

The tools in the lessons work the way SketchUp's do: the same keys, the same Measurements box, the same axis colours. Learn here and you can open SketchUp and carry on. SketchUp is a trademark of Trimble Inc., and this site isn't made by or connected with Trimble.

For children and schools

No account, no email address, no adverts and no tracking cookies. Progress is kept on the device being used, nowhere else.

Languages

Every lesson can be read in every language on the site. Some languages were translated by AI first and are marked so until a native speaker has checked them. If you spot a mistake, tell us and it gets fixed.
