Sides that slope to the back

Stand a side on each end of the floor, from 18 mm exterior plywood: 600 deep and 1100 high at the front, its top cut to slope down 106 to the back, so the rain runs off behind.

Do it here

The model is on the left, the steps on the right. Do each step in the model: it ticks itself when it's done. Then press Check my work.

Step 1 of 6
␣LRPMSet up the modelMeasurements

Follows the model you're drawing: each step ticks itself once it's done.

  1. Press Set up the model. The bearers and the floor are there, locked so they can't move.

You should see: The floor on its three bearers, ready for the sides.

  2. RectangleR On top of the floor, click its front corner on the left. Move right and away from you, and type 18,600 Enter. Push/PullP Pull it up and type 1100 Enter.

You should see: A tall, thin block on the left end of the floor, from the front to the back.

  3. LineL On the inside face of the block, click its top corner at the back. Move down, press ↑ to lock it to the blue axis and type 106 Enter. Then click the top corner at the front, and click where you started.

You should see: A long, thin triangle at the top of the block: the piece to cut away.

  4. Push/PullP Click the triangle, push it into the block and type 18 Enter: it goes right through, and the triangle is gone. SelectSpace Triple-click the side, press G and name it Side.

You should see: The side, 1100 high at the front and 994 at the back.

  5. MoveM With the side selected, tap Ctrl (Option on a Mac) to copy. Click its bottom corner at the front, move right, press → to lock it to the red axis and type 1182 Enter.

You should see: Two sides, 1200 apart on the outside: 1200 − 18 = 1182.

  6. Press Check my work.

You should see: 2 of 2 right.

The boards

Every size in millimetres. Bearers 50 × 75, floor boards 120 × 28, sides and roof from 18 mm exterior plywood, slats 100 × 22.

  • Left side

    1100 × 600 × 18

600 deep, 1100 high at the front and 994 at the back, 18 thick.

On the floor at the left end, from the front to the back.

  • Right side

    1100 × 600 × 18

The same as the left side: 1100 at the front, 994 at the back.

On the floor at the right end, from the front to the back.

Stuck?Show a hint

The top drops 106 over the 600 depth: a slope of 10°, enough for the rain to run off the back of the roof. A line across a face splits it, and pushing one piece as deep as the board is thick cuts it off.

What Check my work looks at

  • Where each board is, to 1 mm
  • Which way each board is turned
