Posts in the corners and the middle

Stand a post 50 × 50 and 450 high in each corner, inside the boards, and one in the middle of each long side, so the long boards don't bow out under the soil.

The model is on the left, the steps on the right. Do each step in the model: it ticks itself when it's done. Then press Check my work.

Follows the model you're drawing: each step ticks itself once it's done.

  1. Press Set up the model. The eight boards are there, locked so they can't move.

You should see: The bed's boards all round, ready for the posts inside them.

  2. RectangleR Click the top corner inside the bed at the front left, where the end board meets the front board. Press ↑ so the rectangle lies flat, move right and away from you, and type 50,50 Enter. Push/PullP Click the little square, push it down and type 450 Enter. SelectSpace Triple-click it, press G and name it Post.

You should see: A post in the front left corner, down to the ground and level with the top of the boards.

  3. MoveM With the post selected, tap Ctrl (Option on a Mac) to copy. Click its top corner at the front on the left, move right, press → to lock it to the red axis and type 1674 Enter. Then type /2 Enter.

You should see: Three posts along the front: /2 shared the 1674 between two copies, one in the middle and one in the corner.

  4. SelectSpace Click the left post, hold Shift and click the other two. MoveM Tap Ctrl, click the left one's top corner at the front, move away from you, press ← to lock it to the green axis and type 774 Enter.

You should see: Six posts: one in each corner and one in the middle of each long side.

  5. Press Check my work.

You should see: 6 of 6 right.

x2 after a copy makes more copies, the same distance apart. /2 shares the distance you moved between two copies: half way and all the way. The posts are 1800 − 38 − 38 − 50 = 1674 apart from the first to the last.

What Check my work looks at

  • Every board's size, to 1 mm
  • Where each board is, to 1 mm
  • Which way each board is turned
  • That each board is its own component
